Col 1:13-14 For he has rescued us from the
dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption through his
blood, the forgiveness of sins.
The blood shed by Jesus Christ at Calvary is so precious to Christians for protection for our lives our
possessions and from demonic attacks.
We know that a high price was paid for this protection by Jesus for us, it also takes us from the kingdom of
darkness and brings us into the kingdom of light where we become seated in heavenly places with God, living in
Christ’s victory, but we need to apply that victory to our lives and one way is through the shed blood of
Jesus.
Throughout the bible we see the price needed to be paid for sin is the sacrifice of blood. That blood then
covers our sins and protects us from the devil.
When Adam and Eve sinned and came to the earth, they were now both aware that they were naked and God made them
clothes of animal skin, so there would have been blood shed from the animals and probably on the animal skin that
covered them.
We see that Abraham was willing to offer Isaac up as a sacrifice when he was tested by God, but he didn’t have
to go through with it as God said that he would provide the sacrifice and in the meantime a ram caught in the
thicket was used as a sacrifice.
God needed those who lived in Old Testament times to have a temporary covering for their sins, by the sacrifice
of the blood of animals. This took place until the time Jesus came to earth and made himself a sacrifice for our
sins. Jesus is also called the Lamb of God because he has taken the place of animal sacrifices.
We are now offered permanent forgiveness for our sins by his shed blood, but we still need to keep
applying Christ's blood to our lives, its part of our covenant relationship with him.
The Jews back in old testament times had to sacrifice blemish free animals on the Day of Atonement to be
able to have a temporary covering for there sin and be able to then have a covenant relationship with God.
In the story of the Passover we read that God had sent Moses to rescue the Israelites from captivity. God gave
Moses instructions to bring plagues upon the Egyptians one of them being the angel of death. Moses told the
Israelites to place the blood of a blemish free lamb on the door-posts and lintels of their houses and then the
angel of death would not touch their firstborn child.
This blood was used prior to an attack for protection; in just the same way we can apply the blood to our lives
our families and possessions for protection.
I plead the blood of Jesus over my family, possessions, houses, cars, finances, job and anything else relevant
for the day like today for instance I am writing this on board a plane and have pleaded the blood of Jesus over it
prior to the journey so I have his protection.
We can’t just assume we are protected just because we are Christians we have to apply what Jesus has done for us
to our lives and be aware of the devils schemes, we cannot be ignorant but must be vigilant so that we don’t get
defeated, the devil is always looking for someone to devour, don’t let it be you, be vigilant, aware of his ways,
and rise up in the victory that Jesus has made available to you to use.
